Emma Lang is a Berlin- and Vancouver-based artist and poet whose work puts a tap to surreal, often ambivalent and anachronistic landscapes. Markers of both hyper-contemporaneity and of incantatory distant pasts are deployed throughout her attempts at sense-making on irritated narratives of personal or planetary magnitudes. Previously trained as a marine biologist, Emma’s practice retains a sensitivity to ecosystem logic and multi-scale-complexity, from the cellular to the biosphere.
She is currently a Master’s student in the M.A. Raumstrategien program at Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin, led by Prof. Dr. Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung and Pauline Doutreluingne. Recent works have been presented at Floating U. (DE), Sumac Space (DE), and Odd Meridian (CA).
She is one half of studio lang (c.2024), a collective created with twin sister, Allison Lang as a container to expand on their artistic practice in interdisciplinary tandem. Primarily engaging in work through prose, movement and performance art. studio lang’s debut project, Survival-Length, was presented at 48H Neukölln Festival in Berlin, June 2023. Currently studio lang is developing Silk Oil, a performance art piece initially created in residency at Odd Meridian Arts with funding from The Canada Council for the Arts.
